The Mathematics Section of the Department of Sciences and Technology is an academic unit of the Universidade Aberta, that is responsible for all curricular units in the scientific areas of Mathematics and Statistics for the whole university, at undergraduate and post-graduate level, both in degrees of its direct responsibility but also in degrees under the responsibility of other sections or departments. The curricular programs offered also include subjects lectured in collaboration with lecturers and researchers from other universities.
The Mathematics Section academic staff has eleven permanent members (Assistant, Associate and Full Professors) and several invited assistant professors.
The research activity is one of the key points to the production of knowledge and evolution in all high education institutions. The research areas of the academic staff are diversified in terms of specialization and generally they focus on: Statistics, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Analysis, Geometry, Algebra and Logic.
