Universidade Aberta of Portugal participated actively in the International Open Access Week (IOAW) from October 20 to 26. This year’s edition has the theme: Who Owns Our Knowledge? By raising a sharp question about the present moment, IOAW questions how communities can resume control over the knowledge they produce. It also invites us to reflect not only on who has access to education and research but also on how knowledge is created and shared, where it comes from, and which voices are recognized and valued.
In this context, the University’s Documentation Services have prepared a program that included the publication of video clips about the five pillars of Open Science on social media throughout the week and two synchronous communication sessions with the academic community, in which the topics of Research Data Management (RDM) and Open Educational Resources (OER) were addressed: Open conversation about Research Data Management (RDM) on the 22nd October and Practices of Creation and Use at Universidade Aberta on the 23rd October.
The International Open Access Week is an annual, global, educational event, part of an international initiative promoted by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), which aims to disseminate open access to knowledge and raise awareness for the free availability of scientific and academic information.
