On December 2nd, Universidade Aberta held a special ceremony to celebrate its 36th anniversary and unveil a significant milestone aimed at enhancing student academic performance – a new scholarship scheme for the highest-graded students.
The event took place at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon, bringing together approximately 150 attendees, including students, academic and administrative staff, and distinguished guests from the Ministry of Education and civil society.
Chaired by Rector Carla Padrel de Oliveira, the ceremony counted with the interventions of Mrs. Priscila Couto, representing the General-Directorate for Higher Education, and Mr. André Rodrigues, President of the Academic Association of Universidade Aberta.
For the first time, the academic performance of Universidade Aberta’s students has been rewarded with 20 scholarships from the General-Directorate for Higher Education. This government initiative has been in force for over a decade granting scholarships to the students of the public higher education universities. However, Universidade Aberta has been excluded because of its nature as a distance education university.
Universidade Aberta welcomes this historic milestone and reinforces its commitment to promote initiatives that value merit and motivate its students to reach their full potential.
