Erasmus+ Staff Week strengthens European collaboration

Universidade Aberta (UAb) hosted the 2026 edition of its Erasmus+ Staff Week recently, bringing together 34 representatives from 21 universities across 16 countries, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation and knowledge exchange in European higher education. Participants come from Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, The Netherlands and Turkey.

Under the theme Beyond Mobility: Building Stronger European Universities, the initiative provided a collaborative platform for academic and non-academic staff to share practices, experiences and perspectives on key challenges shaping the higher education sector.

The programme offered participants an in-depth insight into UAb’s distance education model, including its virtual pedagogical approach and organisational structure. Sessions addressed key strategic areas such as digital transformation, open science, open educational resources, quality and innovation, microcredentials, sustainability, and multimedia production in online learning environments.

In addition to academic exchange, the week fostered intercultural dialogue and networking opportunities, enabling participants to establish connections that may lead to future partnerships, collaborative research projects and new Erasmus mobility flows.

By hosting this initiative, Universidade Aberta further strengthens its role as a hub for digital and distance education, contributing to the development of more connected, innovative and resilient European universities.
