UAb Strengthens Presence on OpenEU Student Council

The Open University of Portugal (Universidade Aberta – UAb) strengthened its presence on the OpenEU Student Council following the meeting held on 27 March, during which elections were held for the new one-year term, running until April 2027.

The institution was represented by student Paula Antunes, who was unanimously elected to the Permanent Board (SC Executive Board), taking on the role of Vice-Chair. This election reflects the recognition and confidence placed in her by her European peers.

The result highlights UAb’s contribution within OpenEU, as well as the active involvement of its students in international representative structures. It also reinforces the University’s presence in European decision-making and coordination contexts in the field of digital higher education.

OpenEU is a European Universities alliance, approved under the Erasmus+ programme, which brings together leading open and distance education institutions with the shared objective of developing the first pan-European open university. The alliance aims to promote inclusive, flexible and digitally driven higher education, responding to key challenges such as lifelong learning, digital transformation and equity within the European Higher Education Area.

For the Students’ Association of the Open University of Portugal, this achievement is a source of pride, consolidating student representation at European level and reinforcing its contribution to the shaping of higher education policies.
