The Diploma Supplement is a document that complements the diploma awarded at the end of a formal study program and which contains a description of the higher education system in the diploma’s country of origin and of the institution that provided the education and awarded the diploma, as well as providing detailed information on the training carried out and the results reached.
By promoting transparency in higher education and fair and informed decision-making regarding the qualifications matter, the Diploma Supplement also promotes mobility and access to lifelong learning opportunities.
It is important to point out that the Diploma Supplement is merely informative: in no way does it replace the diploma or constitute proof of ownership of the qualification to which it refers. Likewise, it also does not replace the Curriculum Vitae.
At Universidade Aberta, the Diploma Supplement is a bilingual Portuguese-English document, issued by the competent entity that awarded and prepared the diploma, according to the European Commission type, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO/CEPES.
It is mandatory to issue free of charge whenever a diploma is awarded.
The European Commission awarded the Quality Label “Diploma Supplement” to Universidade Aberta in December 2013.
