Theses and dissertations

Master and doctoral students must access the personal area and submit documentation at Teses e Dissertações, within the deadlines established for this purpose.

Master students must submit the following documents:

  • Dissertation, project work, or internship report;
  • Updated CV;
  • Declaration(s) of consent of the respective tutor(s).

Likewise, doctoral students must submit:

  • PhD thesis;
  • Updated CV;
  • Declaration(s) of consent from the respective tutor(s), except when the candidate carries out the public presentation under his/her sole responsibility;
  • Application addressed to the Scientific Council requesting admission to doctoral tests.

If the candidate intends to perform his/her public presentation from a remote location (videoconference), the Application addressed to the Magnificent Rector of Universidade Aberta requesting authorization must be attached.

Under the terms of the Regulation for the use of telematic means (see Regulations), the candidate has also to present his/her written consent, by completing and signing the Candidate’s Declaration of Consent for recording his/her public presentation by videoconference

Deposit in REPOSITÓRIOAbERTO
Universidade Aberta’s REPOSITÓRIOAbERTO is available since 2008 and it is part of the Portuguese project Scientific Open Access Repository (RCAAP). By Rectoral Order of 2010 it became part of the institutional policy for depositing publications and took in consideration the recommendations of national and international organizations, in particular, the mandatory open-access policies of the European Research Council and the European Commission and the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities (CRUP). Number of copies to be submitted
After defending the public presentation, students must submit 1 digital copy and the Declaration of Deposit to the Open Repository on the platform available in the personal area (Teses e Dissertações). In addition to the documentation submitted to the platform, all PhD students have to send 1 paper copy to the National Library for legal deposit.

The defended works/documents will integrate the “REPOSITORIOAbERTO”, in accordance with Universidade Aberta’s Institutional Open Access Policy, keeping the authors all their rights.

Full text availability
The deposit of these works/documents is carried out by the Documentation Services of Universidade Aberta,as defined in Decree-Law no. 115/2013, of 7 August,.

In accordance with the Institutional Open Access Policy, embargo periods are authorized against the availability of the full content of the publication in Open Access, with a maximum duration of 36 months, counted from the date the degree was granted.
